In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, garlic, onion, basil leaves, and 1 whole egg. Get in there and make sure everything is incorporated.
Form into patties with your desired thickness and place in cut parchment paper and let cool in the fridge for up to 30 minutes to overnight, or you can start cooking them right away.
Heat up 2tbsp of neutral oil like canola on a skillet, and gently put the patties in to avoid any oil splashes.
Cook one side for 3-4 minutes and season the uncooked side with salt and pepper.
Once flipped, place a slice of cheddar cheese, or any cheese of your choice onto the patty. Cook until the cheese has melted.
Place on a cooling rack.
Buns. Heat up another skillet on medium-low and butter your buns. Toast your buns until they are golden brown and set aside.
Assembly. It's really up to you, but the usual order is: bun, lettuce, burger patty, any topping as long as it's structurally sound, top bun with mayonnaise or any sauce you like.
